Receive artwork for MWA Juried Members Art Exhibit:

Entry fee $10 per piece; limit 3 pieces
No size limitation. Members Only. Island Wide Invitation to Join MWA on entry date juried by owners and staff of Avalene Gallery.

Eligibility: Open to members of MWA with current dues paid.

  • All entries must be original work of the entrant, executed without the supervision of an instructor within the past two years and have not been previously exhibited in any MWA exhibition or juried show on Maui.
  • Entries must not be copied from copyrighted or published works, including paintings, photographs or instructors works. There is no specific theme for this exhibit.
  • Only two-dimensional water media accepted, content suitable for the exhibition.
  • Mixed media accepted, but the major media must be water media.
  • Artwork must be on quality paper (no student grade paper, newsprint, etc.)
  • All artwork must be for sale. Set sale price to reflect commission. Artist 44%, MWA 6% and Avalene 50%.
  • Accepted work may not be exhibited elsewhere until after the close of the show.
  • Unsold artwork not picked up at the gallery by 4:00 PM on May 25, will be assessed a daily fine of $3.00 each day by the exhibition committee.

    Presentation:

  • All work must be properly framed.
  • Paintings must be wired substantially for hanging: no sawtooth hangers.
    Size restrictions:
  • Image size no smaller than 8 inches in any direction.
  • Frame size no larger than 42 inches in any direction.
  • Mats must be clean, professionally cut (no ragged edges, curves or bows).
  • Framing must enhance the art and be professional in appearance.

    Entry Jurors:
    Daniel Merriam     regarded as one of the world's foremost watercolorists, Daniel has captured the hearts and curiosities of many. His highly detailed dream-like images define landscapes of imagination that are uniquely his own yet accessible enough to inspire us all to take a step beyond what we have known as our threshold of consciousness.
    Steve Smeltzer gallery co-owner & artist. Steven's sculptural figures in clay and acrylic tell a story with features so exaggerated, they can't help but evoke a reaction, mainly on the funny bone. Steven's work plays upon the quirky, grotesque, and whimsical aspects of reality that we all-too-often overlook and coaxes humor from realities we prefer to ignore.
    Shavonn Eason gallery director & artist. As Director of the gallery, Shavonn uses her innate talents for design and display as well as expressing herself artistically through her Pacific Rim inspired jewelry creations.

    Cash Awards:
    Best of Show: $100
    Award of Excellence: $50*
    Award of Merit: $25*
    Plus awards from area merchants
    (*Number of awards depends upon the number of entries) Entry Fee $10 per entry, up to three per member artist.
